The Head Murmur series 2024, Individual Work
뇌명증 시리즈 / The Head Murmur series 말뭉치/ British National Corpus(BNC), openframeworks(glsl), touchdesigner(simplex), AI Generated video DB 1ch video, each 1_10’00”, 2_3'30", 3_3'00", Native resolution: 4K 2024

“The Head Murmur” is a generative art piece that explores the essence of language and the limits of perception based on open-source corpus. This work visualizes the process of deconstructing vast linguistic data into morphemes and recombining them according to principles of statistics and probability.

The deconstructed language elements spread and disperse non-linearly, like tinnitus in a vacuum. They are then reconstructed into new patterns through data science techniques, during which language exists as an independent entity, undergoing its own circulation and computation. The process of seemingly chaotic language flows materializing into unexpected visual patterns and images demonstrates language’s self-organizing ability.

Viewers witness the visual output of this decomposed and recombined language, observing familiar linguistic fragments reconstructed in new contexts. This reveals how our perception is both structured and limited by language.

“The Head Murmur” investigates the mechanisms of information processing and perception in the digital age through the decomposition, recombination, and visual output of language. It demands reflection on how we perceive the world and the limitations of that perception, artistically reinterpreting the ontological conditions of the digital era.
