The robotic arm functions as a kind of “employee,” while the artist takes on the role of “employer” or “manager.” The audience corresponds to the role of “consumer,” and the robotic arm inputs text prompts, based on which generative AI produces new outputs. The title of this project, ⟨정직원 / Full-time Employee⟩, is a kind of simulation of a fantastical prognosis regarding the phenomenon of human labor being replaced by technology in contemporary society. The robotic arm symbolizes the worker, and artificial intelligence represents the automated decision-making process. This work raises questions about the changes in labor environments brought about by technological advancement and the role of the human being. The text prompts entered by the audience function as “work instructions,” and the robotic arm interacts with the artificial intelligence in order to carry them out. The results generated in this process appear differently each time, which symbolizes the uncertainty and unpredictability that still exist despite technological advancement. At the same time, this also suggests the creative possibilities that collaboration between humans and technology can bring. ⟨Full-time Employee⟩ prompts a reflection on the future of labor, the interaction between humans and technology, and the social changes that automation will bring. This work raises complex questions about the impact that technological development will have on human roles and values, and seeks to explore and expand such discourse through art. Through this, it searches for new creative horizons that collaboration between humans and technology can produce, and aims to stimulate the imagination regarding future society.
