<Close-up reports: Plants people / 밀착 취재: 식물인간>은 멀티버스 내에서 존재하는 가상의 인간 신매체를 중심으로 한 프로젝트다. 작가 조영각의 기억과 정체성을 기반으로 한 기존의 남성 사진 작가 신매체가 이번에는 동일한 이름의 여성 기자/사진가로 확장된 세계에서 다시 태어났다. 이 확장된 세계는 현실 세계의 범지구적 문제인 기후위기를 주제로 하며, 이 주제를 반추하는 인간과 식물이 융합된 ‘식물인간’들이 주인공이다. 이 ‘식물인간’들은 풍수회화에서 재물과 복을 상징하는 네 가지 식물 – 해바라기, 사과, 모란, 금전수 -을 기반으로 한다. 이들의 스토리와 특성을 패션 화보 스타일의 사진으로 기록하는 동시에, 그들의 인터뷰를 영상으로 표현한다. 이 모든 과정에서 인공지능 기술(생성형)이 활용되어, 현실과 환상이 결합된 멀티버스 세계의 이미지와 영상으로 구현되었다. 이는 인간과 자연의 관계, 그리고 기술이 창조할 수 있는 무한한 가능성에 대한 탐구를 제시한다.
신매체 / SINMAECHE (가상 아티스트)
이 프로젝트에서 신매체는 여성 기자이자 사진작가이다. 기존의 남성인 신매체는 여행사진 작가이다. 그는 메타 휴먼으로, 작가 조영각의 분화된 정체성을 보여주었다. 이번의 신매체는 또다른 매타휴먼인 여성 기자이자 사진 작가로서, 가상의 세계에서 기후 위기라는 현실 세계의 중요한 문제에 관한 탐구를 진행한다. 그녀의 접근 방식은 기후 위기와 관련된 이슈를 직접적으로 다루기보다는, 그로 인해 변화된 세계의 모습을 특정한 캐릭터를 통해 상징적으로 기록한다. 또한, 이 모든 작업 과정에서 인공지능 기술, 특히 생성형 기술이 활용되어, 사진과 영상의 면면에서 새로운 차원의 표현력을 보여주려한다. 결과적으로, 이번의 신매체는 현실의 작가 조영각이 다루는 예술적 차원의 확장을 넘어 사회적 차원의 확장으로 기능하는 존재로, 기후 위기라는 현실 세계의 중요한 문제를 이해하고 대응하는 방법에 대한 생각을 제시한다. 그녀의 작품은 인간과 자연의 관계, 기술의 무한한 가능성, 그리고 창조적인 표현을 통한 사회적 메시지 전달의 중요성을 강조한다.
<Close-up reports: Plants people> is a project centered on a fictional human medium who exists within a multiverse. The original male photographer medium, based on the memory and identity of artist Cho Young-gak, is reborn in an expanded world, this time as a female reporter/photographer of the same name. This expanded world is based on the theme of the climate crisis, a global problem in the real world, and features ‘plant people’, a fusion of humans and plants, who reflect on this theme. They are based on four plants that symbolize wealth and good fortune in Feng Shui paintings: sunflower, apple, peony, and money tree. Their stories and characteristics are documented through fashion editorial-style photography, while their interviews are presented through video. Throughout the process, artificial intelligence technology (generative) is utilized to create images and videos of a multiverse world that combines reality and fantasy. It presents an exploration of the relationship between humans and nature and the infinite possibilities that technology can create. SINMAECHE(Virtual Artist) In this project, SINMAECHE is a female journalist and photographer. The conventional male counterpart is a travel photographer. He is a meta-human, showing the split identity of the artist Cho Young-gak. This time, the new meta-human is a female journalist and photographer, another meta-human, who explores the important real-world issue of the climate crisis in a fictionalized world. Her approach does not directly address the issues related to the climate crisis, but rather symbolically documents the changed state of the world through specific characters. In addition, artificial intelligence technologies, especially generative technologies, are utilized in the process of all these works to show a new level of expressiveness in terms of photography and video. As a result, this new medium functions as an extension of the social dimension beyond the artistic dimension of the real-life artist, presenting thoughts on how to understand and respond to the important real-world issue of the climate crisis. Her work emphasizes the relationship between humans and nature, the infinite possibilities of technology, and the importance of communicating social messages through creative expression.
